transcribe (music transcription tool) The Transcribe! application is an assistant for people who sometimes want to work out a piece of music from a recording, in order to write it out, or play it themselves, or both. It doesn't do the transcribing for you, but it is essentially a specialised player program which is optimised for the purpose of transcription. It has many transcription-specific features not found on conventional music players. Transcribe! is proprietary software. After installation, Transcribe! will be fully functional for a 30-day evaluation period. To buy the software, go to https://www.seventhstring.com/xscribe/buy.html. The Slackware package doesn't need to be changed or updated (just enter the license key). This version of Transcribe! only supports x86_64. If you need a version that will run on 32-bit x86, see transcribe-legacy. Don't install both transcribe and transcribe-legacy; they conflict. Transcribe! uses GStreamer for audio playback. The first time you start the application, the default playback sink is set to pipewiresink. If you don't use pipewire, you'll have to switch to PulseAudio (or maybe ALSA). To do this, use the menu bar: Application -> Preferences -> Playback ...then find "GStreamer device name" about halfway down the dialog. Change "pipewiresink" to either "pulsesink" or "alsasink". You'll actually have to type the name (there's no drop-down list), then click OK.
